New Website!

Hi everyone!

If you're reading this page, that probably means that:
a) You are trying to find samples of my blogging for an application
b) You didn't like my Facebook page like you should have by now, and have no idea my blog shifted over...

I hope it's choice a).

Anyways, I have a new website which better incorporates both my photos in an appealing way AND houses my blog, and you can see that lovely new website here!

Thanks for hanging in there with me, and thanks for reading my blog all summer. You guys rock!

xoxo,
Maddy Hill

The beach, Haley's senior photos, and other random adventures

It. Has. Been. Way. Too. Long.

After a long road trip through the great Midwest, reaching Florida meant putting the computer away for (most) of the week. It was so great seeing our sweet family friends in Florida; we spent so much time together and it was terribly sad having to say goodbye! I had the privilege of capturing Haley's senior photos, however, which she totally rocked in. We shot in Rosemary Beach, Inlet Beach, and Alys Beach-- talk about a location shoot! There were a few setbacks what with the beach being insanely windy that day as well as the sun setting a bit earlier than anticipated, but I ended up LOVING what came out of those obstacles! Here are some of my favorites.

Vacation Day 7: Michigan to Cincinnati

"ART IS THE MOST INTENSE MODE OF INDIVIDUALISM THAT THE WORLD HAS KNOWN."
{OSCAR WILDE}

It's been a while since I've posted on the blog, thanks to poor wifi and lots of driving from city to city. But I'm back, and edited a good amount of photos for this post for y'all to enjoy!

Vacation Day 2: Ohio, Fourth of July!

"FREEDOM LIES IN BEING BOLD."
{ROBERT FROST}

Happy Fourth of July, fellow Americans! What a great day to be repping the red white and blue.

Vacation Day 1: Ohio

"ONE TOUCH OF NATURE MAKES THE WHOLE WORLD KIN."
{WILLIAM SHAKESPEARE}

Today I got to see my lovely Grandma after a year and a half! It has been way too long since I got to see her last, but that just made seeing her that much sweeter. It feels so good to know that I can be away from Ohio for so long and still feel so at home whenever I come back. As much as I love Texas, there will always be a part of me that only Ohio can understand. Ohio in the summer is something that most people don't understand the beauty of, and probably many residents of the state take for granted, but it surely doesn't go unnoticed in my eyes. The weather is perfect--today it was sunny and 65 with a breeze--the grass is soft and green, the sky is blue, and the flowers are still in bloom and not dead yet (like many Texas plants of the non-cactus variety).

So many exciting things to look forward to!

I would just like to take a minute to give a shoutout to the man above for giving me such great photo opportunities and fun adventures this past weekend. I was able to take bridal shower photos, attend a concert in the park with one of my best friends and my sister, and take a day trip to Austin to visit friends with a very old family friend and my sister.

DIY Name Tags and Place Cards

After making the Pennant Banner for the bridal shower, I made name tags and place cards as well. They are cute and really simple to make, and matched the banner so well! This post isn't as detailed as the DIY Pennant Banner because I don't have as many pictures from the process, but I will explain it in as most detail as possible.

Pennant Banner DIY

I was given this project on Monday for a wedding shower my boss is decorating for this weekend, and was so excited to get started. I have seen pennant banners all over Pinterest but never made one for myself. I know that there are plenty of DIYs on how to make these all over the internet, but I wanted to do a step by step tutorial of how I assembled mine! Also, I had no idea that Hobby Lobby carried pre-cut burlap and canvas triangles! Who knew?!

Weekend fun!

This weekend my best friend came back to Cypress! She has been staying in Waco this summer taking spanish in summer school, and it was good to be reunited! Trying to stick to my plan of taking photos daily, I decided to shoot some random photos while we were baking brownies and making friendship bracelets (yes we were making friendship bracelets, so get over it).

Austin Day Trip: June 19, 2014

I took a day trip to Austin, TX with my mom on Thursday and brought along Lenny (my camera, for those of you who don't know). We started our day on South Congress filling up on milkshakes and truffle fries at Hopdoddy, shopped around SoCo, and visited a cute lemonade stand. Then we paid a visit to only the best college there is-- The University of Texas at Austin! We bummed around campus and popped into stores on the drag. I'm pretty sure that the incoming freshman on campus thought that I was a freshman because I was walking around my mom and don't exactly look like a college sophomore, so I had to take some Alpha Phi photos to mark my territory. Anyways, it was a great day with a great person, and I couldn't have had a better time! Enjoy my photos from around the always lovely ATX.

Ashlyn Walker: June 14, 2014

I photographed these photos in the evening because I wanted them to be backlit with a sunny effect and soft lighting, and couldn't have asked for a better turnout. I love these photos! Check out more photos on https://www.facebook.com/maddyhillphotographics !

New Travel Lens!

Today I visited the Houston Camera Exchange with my mom to ask about a weird noise my 24-120mm lens had been making and pick up a card adapter, but came home with a new lens as well! My new baby is an 18-250mm and a crop lens (my camera shoots at such high quality that crop lenses aren't detrimental to quality), and is far more compact than my other lenses. I can't wait to use this lens to capture my family's road trip this July. Welcome to the family, lens #3!

Father's Day 2014

Happy belated Father's Day everyone! I decided to bust out my camera after dinner to get some family shots of the men in my family to look back on over years to come. Thankful for my dad and grandfather!

Jessica Slate: November 28, 2013

Brought my good friend Jessica home for Thanksgiving because she couldn't be in California with her family... so naturally we had to do a Thanksgiving photoshoot!

Alpha Phi Hits for Hearts: November 17, 2013

Just a few photos of my PHInominal sisters from our annual philanthropy event Hits for Hears. A big thanks to all the teams who participated in the tournament! Love all these girls!

Cypress Woods HS Homecoming: October 6, 2013

Photos from my sister's homecoming 2013.

San Antonio 2013

Photos from a mission tour that my family and I went on in San Antonio at the beginning of August.

Rosemary Beach 2013

Portraits and landscapes from my favorite place in the world, Rosemary Beach, FL. Photos were taken in the Rosemary Beach, Seacrest, and Alys Beach communities.

Portraits

Alex Whitnah: June 23, 2013

Shot just a few days shy of National Mountainboarding Day, I wanted to capture not only Alex's mountainboarding tricks, but other aspects of the sport as well. I generally don't shoot in direct sunlight because I like softer looking photos, so I decided to give these sunny photos a 70's vintage effect.

Ren Caldwell: June 4, 2013

Went on a little adventure with my friend Ren today, and brought my camera (of course).

Graduation 2013!

Happy graduation weekend everybody! Here are two simple graduation party invitations that I created for both my party and my best friend's party. I love getting to do design work like this!

Ivy Brown: May 7, 2013

Another shoot for my concentration. Everyone meet Ivy Brown!

Danielle Martinez: April 15, 2013

Was lucky enough to photograph this awesome girl for her rush photos today!

Self Portraits: October 8, 2012

Self portraits for my Photo AP concentration. Photographed with a tripod.

Alex Whitnah: September 17, 2012

My first shoot dealing with my AP Photo concentration (vintage looking portraits taken in interesting lighting). They weren't edited using the same effect, because the entire point of working on a concentration throughout the year is to experiment with photoshop and make a series of collective images that fit together but don't necessarily match. Enjoy these photos of this  handsome man!

Kailee Kubicek: September 8, 2012

My favorite photo from this commissioned mini-shoot. Such great, classic style!

All photos copyright Maddy Hill Photographics.

Ashlyn Walker: August 21, 2012

My two favorite photos of Ashlyn Walker. Such a memorable shoot... especially when we almost got run over by a train! Thanks for putting up with the craziness, gorgeous.

Cypress Woods Cheer Seniors: August 21, 2012

Just a few photos from a group and individual shoot I was commissioned to do of cheer. Happy senior year, girls!

Whitnah Girls: June 1, 2012

Sister shoot at Grand Oaks Horse Farm just off of Huffmeister. Nothing like a photoshoot of two of the sweetest girls on my first day of summer!

Toni Triola: March 25, 2012

This shoot will forever stick out in my mind, because it was the first shoot that I was commissioned to do. A big thank you to the always gorgeous, always lovely Toni Triola. Thanks for trusting me to not take pictures that would look horrible... and helping me believe in myself!

Cameron Hill: March 15, 2012

Went on an impromptu shoot with my sister in the neighborhood today. Tried a different effect for them by adding a new layer of curves and an opaque solid layer (f6ddad), enjoy!

Fenn Family: Thanksgiving Day 2011

I was so lucky to spend Thanksgiving Day with these amazing, lovely people! So blessed to have such great family friends.

Cameron Hill: November 17, 2012

Looking through old photos and came across these babies from one of my senior AP photo shoots! The lovely subject is my sister, who just finished her sophomore year, so happy throwback thursday!

It's spring!

You know what that means....

Plenty of new life, new hope, and new things to create! In a promise I made to myself to be more creative, I have done a few productive things:

1. Created this blog
2. Renamed and rebranded my existing Facebook page
3. Revamped prices

And what do I have to attribute to tonight's late night (or should I say early morning...) productivity?
